even while dashing
toward some Monte Carlo casino
toward the object of his desire within
except this isn’t Monte Carlo
and he wasn’t wearing a tux
but other than that
it was
just like that

This made me smile and laugh out loud, and honestly, I can’t even say why. Something about it appeals to me, and yet, there remains a hint of something else, a hidden clue, and a feeling that if I keep re-reading it, I may stumble upon some deep and profound truth. But, having read it over and over again, I am simply left with the smile that lingers. Perhaps that is truth enough for one poem… Well done, sir!

I meant that “we” (eyewitness & investigators) are home free, while “he” who was dashing has gotten to the object of his desire (and may or not be happy 2B there).
